After You Request a Quote: Measuring, Design and Install Day
Requesting a holiday lighting quote shouldn’t feel like a mystery. Here’s what actually happens between the moment you send your address and the night your lights first come on, step by step, so you know what to expect and what information helps the process move quickly.
Step 1: You send your address
The quote starts with where you live. With your address, most of the measuring can happen before anyone visits. If you have a photo of the front of your house, especially one taken from across the street, send that too. It shows details satellite images miss, like the shape of the entry and which shrubs and trees are in front.
It also helps to say what you’re picturing: roofline only, roofline plus trees, warm white or color, and anything you definitely want lit.
Step 2: Measuring remotely
Satellite views and street-level imagery let us measure the length of each eave and rake, count the peaks and see the height of the house. On most Cypress homes, that’s enough to plan the roofline accurately. Trees and shrubs are noted too, along with where outdoor outlets are likely to be.
Step 3: The design conversation
Next comes a short conversation about the look you want. A few questions shape every design:
- Which rooflines matter most from the street?
- Warm white, multicolor, or white with a color accent?
- Which trees and shrubs should be included?
- Is there an HOA guideline to work within?
- Any dates that matter, such as a party or family arriving?
Step 4: Your quote
You receive a quote based on your home: the lights for each part of the design and the installation labor. Because you buy the lights in the first year, the quote reflects both. From year two on, you pay labor only, because the lights are already yours. If you’d like to adjust the design, adding a tree or leaving a section unlit, the quote is updated to match.
Step 5: Reserving your date
When you’re ready, a 65% deposit reserves your install date. Our article on when to book explains how the calendar fills and why earlier dates go first.
Step 6: Install day
On install day, the crew arrives with lights cut to fit your home, clips for your gutters and shingles, and anything needed for trees and shrubs. You don’t need to be home for most exterior work, though access to outdoor outlets and a gate if you have one makes things easier. The timer is set before the crew leaves; see our timers guide for how that works.
Step 7: The first night
At dusk, the lights come on. Walk across the street and take a look. If something isn’t the way you pictured it, let us know.
When a site visit makes sense
Remote measuring covers most homes, but a few situations call for someone to see the property in person: very large or complex rooflines, homes hidden behind tall trees in satellite images, waterfront back elevations that street imagery can’t show, and HOA entrances or commercial properties with several structures. In those cases a short visit makes the design accurate the first time, and it’s the moment to walk the outlets, the gates and any tricky access points together.
